Beginning Watercolor Series: Washes & Color Mixing

Have you been itching to add watercolor to your artistic skill set? Join science illustrator, Trenton Jung, for a beginning watercolor series where you will get hands-on experience color-mixing, brush technique, and material exploration all in a welcoming environment! We will be working from reference photos (or bring your own) during our painting sessions.

​Class #1 We will practice mixing colors, getting familiar with our palette, and applying washes.

Class Materials:

  • ​140 lb Coldpress watercolor paper (100% cotton paper is ideal - Arches, Blick or Fabriano)

  • ​Student-grade watercolor paper for experiments and practice

  • ​#8 or #10 round synthetic watercolor brush

  • ​Watercolor set (example for beginners set:

    • ​Blick mixing tube set, 5 14ml tubes, Windsor & Newton Painting set, 12 8 ml tubes)

    • ​Or individual colors: cool yellow, warm yellow, warm red, cool red, cool blue, warm blue, cool green, warm green, sienna, ochre

  • ​Plastic or ceramic palette

  • ​Cup for water

  • ​Paper towel

  • ​Artist tape
