comfi.space
November 1 - 21
“Pleasure is a pathway for accessing sexual liberation, and pleasure activism is a means to resist the heteronormative, traditionally gendered narrative. Pleasure[…] and intimacy with ourselves and others can be both healing and powerful” (brown, 2019).
comfi.space showcases a new sense of familiarity and hope that queer kinship and pleasure brings and create new connections through radical imagination and care. Artists channel memories, whether in current or past relationships (platonic, familial, etc) into spatial and visual interpretations that are reminiscent of spaces that we find liberation through queer pleasure/intimacy. The exhibit explores new sensory/tactile methods to encapsulate the essence of these spaces. Ultimately, we want to uncover what queer pleasure and intimacy can look like and be imagined as, as well as experiment new ways of engaging the audience through feeling like incorporating spatial and tactile mediums.
This exhibit transforms everyday living room objects into memories of queer pleasure, represented by the featured artists' pieces. Some questions artists pondered: How does radical pleasure transform the way we see ordinary spaces in our lives? What feelings does it evoke? How can this piece serve as evidence that our pleasure once existed in this space?
